Visit the Amazing Akumal, One of the Oldest Vacation Spots of the Mayan Riviera

Are you wondering where can you spend some great and relaxing vacations? Well, stop trying to search that special place because I’m going to tell you everything about one of the most beautiful destinations: the Mayan Riviera in Mexico. But, the Riviera is such a large area so what place would be best for you if you need peace? In that case, you should visit the amazing Akumal, one of the oldest vacation spots of the Mayan Riviera.

Mexico’s Paradise

The Mayan Riviera is a ver beautiful area extending along the coast of the Caribbean Sea in the Yucatan Peninsula (covering the state of Quintana Roo). In total, it runs from the town Puerto Morelos up to the Biosphere Rerserve of Sian Ka’an. In the past, however, it was a much smaller area that was made up of just quaint fishing villages. Nowadays, this tourist corridor is considered as one of the best vacation destinations in the world due to the incredibly luxurious hotels and resorts, the excellent fine dining, the wild nightlife, the exclusive spas, the vast shopping opportunities, the wide variety of ecological attractions and, above all that, the amazing beaches with soft, white sand and turquoise water. This last characteristic is the main reason why people fall in love with the Mayan Riviera since they are able to practise all kinds of water activities (the most popular are snorkeling and scuba diving) and discover the one of the richest aquatic ecosystems in the world at the Great Mayan Barrier Reef.

As I wrote above, the Mayan Riviera is made up of a large coastal corridor, so which is the best place for you to go? Akumal, a picturesque coastal town, is definitely the best answer. Situated 60 miles south of the International Airport of Cancun, Akumal has been an important part of Mexico’s tourism industry since historically it was the first recognized destination of the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. However, in the past, it was just a coconut plantation until it was discovered by Pablo Bush Romero, founder of the CEDAM (Exploration and Water Sports Club of Mexico, for its acronym in Spanish). After that, Pablo Romero bought thousands of acres in the surroundings of the area giving life to the current town of Akumal. Today, this gorgeous coastal place is a great destination for those seeking relaxation and aquatic adventures. Here, you can explore the waters of the Caribbean Sea which is the home for many turtles (they give the name to the town since Akumal means place of the turtles), the Akumal sinkhole as well as the Yalku Lagoon, a rich aquatic habitat with fresh water.

So, Akumal in the vast Mayan Riviera is the best place for you (or for anyone) if you are looking for a serene and gorgeous coastal environment. Surely, after visiting it, you won’t need to look anywhere else to have one of the most incredible vacations of your life.
